Leon Bridges Returns with “Happiness Anytime” in September

Two years after his wonderful LP “Leon”, which included one of our top five songs of the year (“Peaceful Place”), Leon Bridges returns with his new album “Happiness Anytime”, due September 25th on Columbia Records. The first four songs were released today, with additional songs coming up before the album’s release date. The Afro-centric and brass-heavy “Light The Way” opens the album with an especially positive and outspoken message. Co-produced with Lydia Kitto and Joshua Lloyd-Watson, who also co-wrote most of the songs, the album continues with another optimistic piece: “Tears Of Joy”, once again with a Masekela-like Afro beat and backing vocals, lives off its rigorous bass line (Lydia Kitto), as does “Illusion”, which also boasts with soaring percussion work (Eric Hagstrom) and Leon’s signature, heartily soulful voice. Leon, who just celebrated his 37th birthday last Monday, sounds best on the downtempo, dreamy “Your Love Is Electric”.
