Ed Motta: New Album in September
Ed Motta, the Brazilian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and producer, nephew of legendary Tim Maia, just announced the release of his next album. “Toc-Toc”, due September 25th on the German-based MPS label, is his first album in Portuguese after about a decade dedicating his original work to an English-language repertoire. The new album, inspired by 1980s electro funk and soul and jazz, will also see a 180g Gatefold vinyl release on October 16th. He cites Cameo and the S.O.S. Band as the source of his inspiration, probably best executed on the first single “Eu Quero Ser Feliz”, which came out on July 17th.
Ed describes “Toc-Toc” as a pop album with jazz influences. “On my earlier albums, I often sought out a complex narrative style. Not so on this album. I want to keep things simple and easy to follow. It’s really a genuine summer-sun album.” A full review of the album will be published closer to the release date.
