Bruno Berle – Sem Fronteiras
Brazilian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Bruno Berle just released “Sem Fronteiras” on Far Out Recordings, his third album, two weeks ago. It is the follow-up to the five-paw rated album “No Reino Dos Afetos 2” (2024). Bruno premiered a few songs from the new album late last month here in Berlin. It was a wonderful show. Once again co-produced and co-written by batata boy and also by fellow label mate Nyron Higor, the one thing that stands out first on the new album is the use of a string quartet, like on the two beautiful album openers “Você Já Sabe Que Eu Te Amo” (written and produced with Nyron Higor) and “Não Posso Viver Com Você”. Both songs are melancholic love songs, with Bruno’s angelic voice and batata boy’s longing keys (Rhodes!) augmenting that special yearning. That certain mood continues on “A Noite De Estrelas”, with the two guitars by Bruno and Nyron gently gliding through the track. “Outra Noite” adds some smooth percussion by Felipe Berle.

And then there is this sudden outburst, this celebration on “Amor Inteiro”, a fun track which is really contagious and energetic and has Nina Maia on backing vocals and strong drum work by Pedro Lacerda. Tempo goes down again for “Ideias Mágicas”, probably the track which is the closest in sound to the music of his two earlier albums. “Vim Dizer” is another dreamy, saudade piece with Bruno’s exceptional and simply wondrous voice. Another short one, but highly effective and with subtle guitar and synth. “Tô Assim” is a simple and joyous instrumental, with batata boy using a cool shaker to enhance the mood of the track. The album is another pretty short affair, clocking in at under 30 minutes. But every second is worth the trip. We’re still in love with “Manhã”, one of the tracks which had been released as a single prior to the album’s release. Its dreamy and light and soft quality is one of the highlights here. And the title track, which concludes the album, enforces the fact that here is an artist at work whose independent, unique style is an honor and joy to watch it unfold. Bruno has three upcoming dates in Europe:
9/11 Madrid – Sala Clamores
9/16 Copenhagen – Alice
9/17 Stockholm – Slaktkyrkan
