Durand Jones & The Indications – Flowers

It’s been four long years since the release of “Private Space”, the brilliant, five-paw rated LP by Durand Jones & The Indications. Singer and drummer Aaron Frazer also released his second solo album during this period, the wonderful “Into The Blue”, in 2024. And so here are the “Flowers”, ten new tracks plus a short intro. We’ve already been treated to three singles off the album, like the elegantly swinging and swaying “Lover’s Holiday”. Durand and Aaron once again split vocal duties. Group vocals and harmonies shine bright on the breezy “I Need The Answer” and Aaron is at his best on another pretty cool and easily flowing tune which had already been out as a single (“Flower Moon”).

I really like the strings on “Really Wanna Be With You”, a pretty 70s-sounding cut which reminds me of both Al Green and the Friends of Distinction. “Been So Long”, another previously released single, still sounds amazing, with the floating backing vocals helping Aaron find his perfect spots. Things slow down for the beautiful ballad “Everything”, another song which catapults you back to the 70s. Its opulent background vocals and the svelte bass line hark back to the golden days of soul balladry. And we also get some dirtier stuff here, like the gospel-inflected “Rust And Steel”, which exudes enough drama to keep the attention. On the funkier side of things, check out “If Not For Love” which includes some mean sax too. Oh and the album opens with the incredibly sexy “Paradise” with a thumping bassline reminiscent of Sylvia Striplin’s “You Can’t Turn Me Away” and some freaky and effective backing vocals as well as some airy flute.

Durand Jones & The Indications will play some festivals in the UK, Belgium, and The Netherlands in July before they embark on an extensive, 2-month US tour from September to November. So far, some European dates are confirmed for February 2026 see below.
