Isaiah Collier Comes up With “Joy”
The multi-instrumentalist, composer, and singer Isaiah Collier returns with a five-track EP called “Joy” on July 31st. The album will come out on Brownswood Recordings, the British label co-founded twenty years ago by Gilles Peterson. The lead single and title track is out now and it features Isaiah on piano and tenor sax and vocals in addition to an 11-piece ensemble with horns and strings. “Everything just felt like it was falling apart with no aim in sight,” he reflects. “Yet, there is a light at the end of it all.”
“Joy is partially happiness,” Collier explains. “But to me it means happily being grateful for family, friends, lovers, teachers, and good times. These are the things that anchor us.” The track actually oozes positivity and happiness and is one of those feel-good songs we really need more of. The full EP review will be published here at the end of July. Some of the music reminds me of the best work of Pharoah Sanders. Isaiah is currently touring his “Collier plays Coltrane” programme in Europe with additional dates in Canada and the US later this year. You can listen and pre-order his latest music right here.
