Lizz Wright Announces New Album
The celebrated vocalist Lizz Wright just announced the release of a new duo album with her longtime pianist Kenny Banks, Sr. “Nearness” is an 11-track, intimate LP of standards and spirituals and will be released on September 25th on Lizz’ own Blues and Greens label. The first single, the spiritual “Soon I Will Be Done”, came out last week. “I have heard this song since I was a child and I used to think that it was about death. Now I hear it, and it makes me want to dig deeper to unearth all of my strength and figure out what it means for me to live in as much fullness, love and power as I can. To “live with God, to go home,” could really mean to live in love and remember who I am.”
“Nearness” also features Lizz’ courageous takes on classics like “Amazing Grace”, “All The Things You Are”, and the title track “The Nearness Of You”. You can check her new material during her fall tour through Europe.
