ASHRR – “Please Don’t Stop The Rain”
LA-based ASHRR, consisting of Ethan Allen, Josh Charles, and Steven Davis, released their second album “Sunshine Low” on 20:20 Vision last September. Their not easily describable sound, a mix of Electronic, Alternative Soul, 80s New Wave, and Indie dance, was a pretty mixed affair on those 14 tracks. Enter Ron Trent, the now almost legendary DJ and producer from Chicago, who remixed the album opener “Please Don’t Stop The Rain”. It’s their sixth single off the album and Ron worked his magical way by incorporating soul and disco elements into the track which almost make it a completely new piece. It now has much more oomph and groove and boasts a superb production. Ron also stripped the track down to a Dub version which comes across as a more basic and bare dance and disco lure.
There are two additional remixes by the group itself, named as ASHRR Soundsystem. The main remix has a more urgent flavor to it, at times reminding me of some late 70s/early 80s Talking Heads, circa “Psycho Killer”. And it works. The steady groove is intoxicating and fancy, which is again demonstrated in the instrumental remix version of the track. You can get your latest ASHRR Remix right here!
