Django Reinhardt Legacy Continues

There is the annual Django Reinhardt Jazz Festival in Samois-sur-Seine in France (June 22nd-26th) and there is the Django Reinhardt Festival in Hildesheim in Germany (July 1st and 2nd). And then there is the Django Reinhardt NY Festival which will celebrate its 17th season this year at Birdland (August 2nd-7th).

Among the artists performing at the bi-annual festival in New York this year are the Django Festival Allstars from France plus some very special guests. Clarinetist Anat Cohen will join the stage on August 2nd, pianist Peter Beets is on the schedule for August 3rd and 4th, and Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition winner Jazzmeia Horn will be there on August 7th. Also performing on August 5th and 6th, Brazilians Jorge Continentino (flute) and Itaiguara Brandao (electric bass) will be part of the “Hot Jazz meets Brazilian Rhythms” evening.
