SF Jazz Collective Has A New Member

The SFJAZZ Collective, the famous octet which has released a great body of work since their debut in 2004, has announced a new member: trumpeter Sean Jones joins the group and replaces trumpeter Avishai Cohen.

Also on the horizon: a new album which will be the first with Sean and which will explore the music of Michael Jackson. Former albums have dealt with the work of Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Stevie Wonder, Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, Horace Silver, and Joe Henderson. The album will come out in March, 2016.

The remaining members of this group, known for their creative and innovative arrangements, are Miguel Zenón (founder) on alto sax, David Sánchez on tenor sax, Robin Eubanks on trombone, Warren Wolf on vibes, Edward Simon on piano, Matt Penman on bass, and Obed Calvaire on drums.

The SFJAZZ Collective is on a US tour in October which will continue next April with stints in New York, Pittsburgh, and Boston. No European tour dates have been announced yet.
