Young Gun Silver Fox on Tour Includes Berlin on the 21st!
The duo of UK-based Andy Platts and Shawn Lee, also known as Young Gun Silver Fox, are touring Europe this month after the early May release of their fifth LP “Pleasure” on Légère Recordings. Their brilliant mix of so-called Yacht Rock, Blue-eyed soul (don’t like this term but there you go), and AOR sounds of the early 80s US radio, combined with superb vocals and pretty sophisticated production work, has made them unique sound gurus since their debut album 10 years ago. There is Steely Dan and Fleetwood Mac in their music. There is also some early 80s boogie on pieces like “Stevie & Sly”, the album opener. “Born To Dream” sounds like one of the best Doobie Brothers cuts. With excellent vocal work by Andy, who can soar to the highest highs here, this is by no means a melange of covers even though I automatically start to think of some of the best of the 80s MOR bands. This is clearly their best work to date I think. Just check out “Late Night Last Train” and start to revel in the memories when you were listening in front of the radio waiting for your favorite track to come up to press the “record” button on your cassette player.
And there is so much more to explore here: wonderful vocal work on “Burning Daylight” and a smoothly gliding soft boogie groove on “Holding Back The Fire” for example, including some of the most soulful vocal work by Andy. Or the slightly funky “Just For Pleasure” with its irresistible handclaps and amazing backing vocal arrangement. It’s pure bliss. I also like the slower “Stealing Time” and so much more. The album is on constant rotation here since almost four months. Young Gun Silver Fox are back in Berlin on September 21st (the last time I saw them was a few years ago at Quasimodo so I’m really looking forward to their return) and also tour Europe before heading to the US for some select dates there. I’ll see you on the 21st!
