17th jazznojazz Festival in Zurich

jazznojazzMore and more Jazz festivals are releasing their schedules for the season and beyond. There is a nice and sympathetic festival in Zurich at the end of October which will stage its 17th edition this year. The jazznojazz festival will take place October 28th to 31st at the Gessnerallee and the ZKB Club at the Theater der Künste.

20 concerts are set with a very special one on the Saturday afternoon: the RUSCONI Kinder Arkestra is going to the schools on the days leading up to the festival to introduce the music to the children. Stefan Rusconi, the bandleader, is bringing ten children aged between 8 and 12 to the stage to play his music and find a hands-on approach for the kids.

Also scheduled for the festival are Lizz Wright who will have her new album ready to go at the time of her show (Oct 29th), Chick Corea & The Vigil, his new Fusion group featuring Tim Garland on sax, flute, and clarinet and Marcus Gilmore on drums, Cassandra Wilson presenting songs from her most recent album of Billie Holiday songs, the Stanley Clarke Band, the Steve Gadd Band with Larry Goldings on keys, Jarrod Lawson, the brilliant Soul/Jazz singer and pianist from Portland who seems to be one of the hottest acts this season, and guitarist Nguyen Le presenting his interpretations of the music of Pink Floyd.

Two core members of the James Brown band will also play at this year’s festival: both Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley and his New JBs will bring the Funk to Switzerland. The final day is reserved for Nigerian singer Somi, for Nina Simone’s daughter Lisa Simone, Marcus Miller and Fusion supergroup Fourplay.
