Artist in Residence for Detroit Jazz Festival: Pat Metheny

Pat Metheny Unity Group "Kin"This year’s Detroit Jazz Festival, the world’s largest free Jazz Festival, will take place September 4th-7th on four stages and with more than 100 performances.

Just recently the artist in residence for the 36th edition has been announced: Pat Metheny can be seen in different collaborations. As the festival’s ambassador, he will headline the second performance on opening night and there will be very interesting combinations: His trio with Scott Colley and Antonio Sanchez will play with Detroit native Kenny Garrett. There will also be an acoustic duo date with another Detroit native: bassist Ron Carter. Also, a very welcome return with Gary Burton is on the menu and finally, a very interesting suite will have its premiere: Metheny will play with the Detroit Jazz Festival Orchestra to present his latest 30-minute suite, dedicated to bassist Eberhard Weber which he debuted at a special tribute concert in Stuttgart in late January.
