Make sure to check back here for reviews of, among many others, new albums by producer, composer, arranger Meeco who has assembled a stellar cast of performers for his new album “Souvenirs Of Love”. Guest artists include Mary Stallings, Hubert Laws, Stefon Harris, John Scofield, Wallace Roney, and many more. This is the first real highlight of the year!
Also coming up, German singer Esther Kaiser with an album of the songs of Abbey Lincoln. A brave set of 13 pieces with a great collection of Lincoln songs. Bassist Avishai Cohen will release his “From Darkness” album in February. The trio record features all original material plus a cover of the standard “Smile”. Kat Edmonson‘s new one, “The Big Picture”, will see the light of day on this side of the Atlantic in January (it has been released already in the US). The album was produced by Mitchell Froom and it suits her well.
Cornetist and Clarinetist Matt Lavelle and vibraphonist and percussionist John Pietaro have chosen the music of Thelonious Monk for their new “Harmolodic Monk” disc which will be out the first week of January. German saxophonist Stephan-Max Wirth and his Experience come up “The Inner Draft” and guitarist Rez Abbasi has recorded a collection of 70s Jazz-Rock classics by Herbie Hancock, Larry Coryell, or Joe Zawinul for his “Intents And Purposes” album coming out in February and featuring Bill Ware, Stephan Crump, and Eric McPherson.
And this is just the beginning.
