Congratulations Ann, Jane, and Mary
The BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Awards have been announced. Ann Hampton Callaway is the “Queen of Broadway”, she has garnered the most votes and is now officially “Performer of the Year”. Congratulations Ann!
In the “Best Jazz Vocalist” category, there is a tie between Jane Monheit, who has won two years in a row, and the wonderful Mary Foster Conklin.
Cabaret fans will be able to catch many of this year’s Award winners perform at the 3rd Annual BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Awards Show, which will be hosted again this year by BWW Cabaret Editor and Columnist Stephen Hanks. The Awards Show is set for Joe’s Pub (425 Lafayette Street, New York, NY 10003) on February 23 at 6:30-8:45 pm, according to the website.
Ann is also touring continuously like she always has. For example, this upcoming Saturday, she’ll be at NY’s 54 Below with her show “The Best of Ann Hampton Callaway“. She is also scheduled for the “Canciones De Película” event in Santander, Spain on January 26th and she’ll bring her “Sarah Vaughan Project” to Seattle’s Jazz Alley March 10th and 11th.
Mary Foster Conklin, the singer from New Jersey who was described as “full of salt and vinegar” by the New York Times, continues her weekly Friday night gig at Manhattan’s Moscow 57 in January and she’ll also appear at Laurie Krauz’s Jazz Soup at the Metropolitan Room on West 22nd Street on February 3rd.
Jane Monheit has concerts scheduled well into the new year. She’ll be at New York’s Birdland January 13th to 17th and she has several concerts coming up in Europe as well (see also Events): for example, she’s at Vienna’s Porgy & Bess club on April 29th, the Opera House in Halle, Germany, on May 1st, or at London’s Ronnie Scott’s on May 7th and 8th.
