January Jazz in Tucson
There is a new Jazz Festival coming up next month in Tucson. Festival Director Yvonne Ervin said: “There will be a little bit of something for everyone and January in Tucson is the perfect time of year to enjoy and celebrate jazz music!” Why? Because the average daytime high temperature during that same time in 2014 was a stunning 74.5 degrees.
Highlights of the Festival are plenty: Jimmy Cobb will be a special guest and resident artist during the Festival which runs from January 16th-28th. Joey DeFrancesco is among the artists as well as Robert Glasper, Dianne Reeves, Billy Childs with JD Souther, Allan Harris singing the songs of Nat King Cole and there will also be a showcase of jazz musicians from Tucson who made their careers in Jazz in New York, like Tony Malaby, Rachel Eckroth, and Dmitry Matheny.
One more highlight will certainly be closing night: legendary composer Burt Bacharach will play the Fox Theatre with his 11-piece band.
