Montreux Jazz Goes to Africa
The prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival, which only recently revealed their spectacular, embroidered poster (created by Swiss fashion designer Kévin Germanier) for next year’s 60th edition (July 3-18), just announced the launch of their first ever African edition. The Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek will premiere March 27-29. Franschhoek, close to Capetown, has become known as one of the world’s most celebrated food, wine, and art destinations. The festival hast just unveiled its inaugural poster, designed by South African artist Sam Nhlengethwa, himself a jazz enthusiast and painter of musical legends. Sam has spent decades chronicling both South African and global jazz culture and his poster is showing bassist Charles Mingus. Says Sam: “To create this poster is a privilege, Montreux has always been a dream for musicians – now Africa joins that dream. This poster is my tribute to that connection.”
Montreux Jazz Franschhoek is supposed to connect global artistry with African soul and will provide exceptional performances, immersive experiences, and the unmistakable magic of Franschhoek. We can’t wait to see the lineup for this first edition!
