In 2000, trumpeter Roy Hargrove toured and recorded with Neo Soul singer D’Angelo. The result was the groundbreaking “Voodoo” album, the second album after his debut “Brown Sugar” which had been released five years earlier.
Roy Hargrove is in Berlin with his Quintet, performing three nights from Sunday to Tuesday. Justin Robinson accompanies him on alto sax, Jonathan Batiste on piano, Ameen Saleem on bass, and Montez Coleman on drums.
In other tour news, D’Angelo has announced a European tour in February. The last time he was scheduled to play a couple of years ago, all of his shows were cancelled. He is going to play four shows in Germany: Feb 12 in Neu-Isenburg (near Frankfurt), February 14th in Berlin (that’s Valentine’s Day ;-), February 24th in Hamburg and on March 6th in Cologne.
