Berlin’s ZigZag club, in the heart of Schöneberg and one of the nicest jazz clubs around town, has started a new monthly jazz series, curated by singer Jacobien Vlasman, herself one of the most wonderful jazz singers in this city. The series presents a monthly artist-in-residence each Monday, coming from the present avantgarde scene. This month, versatile drummer Moritz Baumgärtner will take hold, with two shows already behind him and two more to go.
For next Monday, Janurary 20th, he will take care of the drums in the quartet of trumpeter Richard Koch. Joining them will be pianist Michael Hornek (both from Austria) and Italian bassist Igor Spallati. For the fourth and final concert on January 27th, the trio Witold will take over with Kalle Kalima on guitar and Uli Kempendorff on sax joining the drummer.
Coming up in February, four shows with guitarist Ronny Graupe. Saxophonist and clarinetist Gebhard Ullmann will be there in March and pianist Aki Takase for the month of April.
