Vinícius Cantuária Announces New Album

The great Brazilian singer, songwriter, and guitarist Vinícius Cantuária has just announced the release of his next album “Psychedelic Rio” on Sunnyside Records on March 22nd. On this album, Vinícius has teamed up with the Italian duo of Paolo Andriolo (bass) and Roberto Rossi (drums and percussion). Most of the songs on the album are by the leader, but the three also tackle milestones by Jobim (“Insensatez”) or the Luz/Coqueijo classic “É Preciso Perdoar”. And there is one song by the Italian duo, too (“Verde Mata”). The album is supposed to show another vision of Brazilian music, away from your typical samba and bossa nova. Vinicius plays his Fender electric guitar this time around and we also get a lot of distortion “leaving a more raw and open sound”. There is also an accordion and keyboards on one track each.

We can’t wait to hear the full album. In the meantime, check out “Rio Negro“, written by Vinícius and Caetano Veloso. It’s a winner! Alas, no vinyl is planned.
