2016 Jazz Fest Lineup For New Orleans Jazz Festival Announced
Last year, about 460.000 people visited the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell over two weekends. Twelve stages at the Fair Grounds Race Course featured almost nonstop music and over 60 food booths took care of culinary needs.
Just a few days ago, the programme for the 47th edition was announced and the Festival will start again with the 18th Jazz & Heritage Festival Gala with the O’Jays performing on April 21st. The first weekend will feature Steely Dan, Janelle Monáe, Michael McDonald, Kermit Ruffins, Geri Allen with the Erroll Garner Jazz Project, Christian Scott presents Stretch Music, Bria Skonberg, Jason Marsalis on April 22nd, Van Morrison, Maxwell, Boz Scaggs, Victor Goines on April 23rd, and Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter Duo, Terence Blanchard & the E-Collective, Henry Butler, Herlin Riley Quintet, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Taj Mahal Trio on April 24th.
The second loong weekend will have Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Gary Clark Jr., Snarky Puppy, Marlon Jordan, and Cyrille Neville (April 28th), Paul Simon, Lauryn Hill, Irma Thomas, Jazmine Sullivan, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Irvin Mayfield, Joe Lovano Us Five, Nicholas Payton & the Afro-Caribbean Mixtape, and John Boutté (April 29th), Stevie Wonder, Buddy Guy, Dr. John, Snoop Dogg, Gregory Porter, Arturo Sandoval, and the Rebirth Brass Band (April 30th), as well as Neil Young, Trombone Shorty, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Staples, the Isley Brothers featuring Ronald and Ernie Isley, Aaron Neville, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Chris Botti, Ellis Marsalis, and Heads Of State on May 1st. What a lineup! In addition and as usual, dozens of local acts will perform again this year.
