José James Releasing Billie Holiday Tribute Album

José JamesHappy Birthday José James!

Returning from his indie-rock infused fifth album “While You Were Sleeping” to Jazz for his next Blue Note album, the singer with the sexy baritone pays tribute to the legendary Billie Holiday on his “Yesterday I Had The Blues” project coming out next month.

In a trailer for the album, José describes Billie Holiday as his musical mother and how her music has inspired his own vocal style. The album will feature Jason Moran on piano, John Patitucci on bass, and Eric Harland on drums and the cover art is reminiscent of the great work of Francis Wolff in the 60s.

José has already played select dates with the new material and will play the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis tonight and tomorrow. The first shows around the record release date will be in Japan from February 12th in Osaka to February 13th-15th in Tokyo.

The picture was taken in Cologne after an interview for his release of his first Blue Note album in 2013, “No Beginning No End”.
