Blue Note Jazz Club Opens in Beijing and Hawaii
According to an article in the New York Times, the Blue Note Jazz Club is expanding. Opening new clubs in early 2016 in Hawaii and Beijing, the brand will then have seven outlets: its original club in Manhattan’s East Village, three clubs in Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya), and its only location in Europe in Milan, Italy.
The club in Beijing will have its home in the building of the former American Embassy and will occupy a 16.000 square-foot basement space, according to the paper. Two more Blue Note Clubs are supposed to open over the next few years in Shanghai and Taipei.
The club in Hawaii will open at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort and is also currently under renovation.
Artists scheduled for this weekend at the Blue Note in New York is the Robert Glasper Trio (June 25th-27th), the Lee Konitz Trio in Milan on June 28th, Sadao Watanabe with Kenny Barron, Ben Williams, and Ulysses Owens, Jr. (June 28-30) in Nagoya.
