First Names for North Sea Jazz 2025 Announced
The 48th edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival will take place July 11th-13th at Rotterdam’s Ahoy. Just a few moments ago, the first names have been revealed. Artist in Residence this year is Jacob Collier and there will be several special performances: vibraphonist Jason Marsalis will play legendary big band leader Lionel Hampton in the Lionel Hampton Big Band which also consists of original members, and singer Kurt Elling will pay tribute to Weather Report in a setting with the Yellowjackets. Also coming up: one of our favorite artists, Jordan Rakei plus Maxwell in his first ever appearance at the festival. Here are the artists so far, more to be announced at a later date:
Friday, July 11th: Avishai Cohen Quartet, Jordan Rakei, Ezra Collective, Jacob Collier, Branford Marsalis Quartet, Mary J. Blige, Omah Lay, Judith Hill, Madeleine Peyroux, Victor Ray, DeWolff, Julian Lage.
Saturday, July 12th: Maxwell, Jacob Collier, Aja Monet, Naomi Sharon, Samara Joy, Fujii Kaze, Ghost-Note, Lionel Hampton Big Band feat. Jason Marsalis, Mary Halvorson Amaryllis Sextet, Jonathan Jeremiah, Joe Bonamassa & Metropole Orkest.
Sunday, July 13th: Immanuel Wilkins Quartet, Anoushka Shankar, Jacob Collier, Kamasi Washington, Tigran Hamasyan, Jorja Smith, Jazzmeia Horn, Kurt Elling & Yellowjackets celebrate Weather Report, Lady Blackbird, Lakecia Benjamin, Thee Sacred Souls.
