Gina’s Top Songs of the Year: Jordan Rakei once again
5.
“State Of Mind” – Jordan Rakei
“What’s a love language to me
Let’s get to the roots of the tree
Feel the love in different ways
Comfort in different taste”
Jordan Rakei‘s “State Of Mind” is the third song from his “The Loop” LP to have made it onto our list of top songs of the year. It celebrates longterm relationships in a very passionate, somewhat enigmatic way with Jordan’s vocal gliding effortlessly and persuasively through the song. The way he raises his voice on the words “me” and “tree” speaks volumes of the importance of the lyric’s empathetic content. His boundless creativity once again shows in the pretty mindful and utterly ingenious production work and in his refined arrangement: the percussion-led coda with its haunting backing vocals effectively add to the brilliance of the tune. The song was also one of the highlights of his live performance in Berlin in September.
“You and I realise
That the feeling still resides
It’s a state of mind
It could last a lifetime”
