19. “Live For You” – Thee Sacred Souls
Thee Sacred Souls, a trio from San Diego cleverly and fascinatingly mixing old school Soul of the 60s with the more sophisticated sounds of the early 70s, released their debut album in 2022. To much critical acclaim and praise. In early October, Josh Lane, Sal Samano, and Alex Garcia released their sophomore LP “Got A Story To Tell” on the Brooklyn based Daptone Records. Produced by Gabriel Roth aka Bosco Mann, the group easily fits into that signature Daptone retro sound. Retro yes, but never veering too close to nostalgic. Anyway, if there is one song on the album which really got me this year, it is the very Marvin sounding “Live For You”. It has all the right ingredients to become a classic: great production and arranging work, sublime vocals, and a soothing melody. Thee Sacred Souls are on tour in Europe in the new year. They are all over the US in January before they hop over.
