Jazzfest Bonn Announces 2016 Programme

Lisa Bassenge "Canyon Songs"The festival for contemorary, creative jazz will present 22 bands between April 22nd and May 7th of next year. Jazzfest founder Peter Materna, himself an accomplished saxophonist, started to put Bonn on the jazz festival map back in 2010. Once again next year, various locations throughout the city will host international and national artists.

Among the venues are the Beethovenhalle, Brotfabrik, Post Tower, Haus der Geschichte, and Universität Bonn. So what’s on? The festival starts with a double concert on Friday, April 22nd with the Bundesjazzorchester which features Germany’s best young jazz talents with their own compositions, and singer Roger Cicero and his Jazz Experience. That same weekend will also see Antonio Sánchez & Migration (he released his ambitious “Meridian Suite” earlier this year), German singer Lisa Bassenge with songs from her Larry Klein-produced album “Canyon Songs”, and Jean-Louis Matinier & Henri Texier.

Also on the bill for the 2016 edition: Ramón Valle Trio, Lisa Simone (daughter of Nina Simone), Sidsel Endresen & Stian Westerhus, Michael Wollny Trio, soul veteran Bettye LaVette, Marcus Schinkel Trio feat. Ernie Watts, Caecilie Norby & Lars Danielsson, Wolfgang Dauner with his son Flo, Jacob Karlzon solo, Dave Liebman & Richie Beirach, Vijay Iyer Trio, and Nils Petter Molvaer solo.
