The singer from Newark has just released her 23rd album “I Give Up, I’m In Love”, another fine collection of standards and rare tunes. She’s accompanied by Warren Vaché, Harry Allen, Mike Renzi, David Finck, among others and the Glenn Franke Big Band is heard on three tracks.
Says Johnny Mandel: “Marlene is truly an incredible singer. And not only that, this is an incredible album. When it comes to Marlene’s choice of songs and the way she sings them, there’s nobody better. And songwriter Hugh Martin: “We know our songs are safe in the hands of Marlene VerPlanck, and she will sing them better than anyone else.”
There are two Stephen Sondheim songs on the album, a Peggy Lee, Billy Strayhorn, and a Rodgers and Hart. And now she announced her UK tour schedule for March:
The tour starts in Felpham on March 4th and takes her to stops in Kent, Brighton, Norwich, Cambridge, Ilminster, Milton Keynes, Portsmouth, Swansea, Nottingham, and of course London where she will play Ronnie Scott’s for Brunch on March 8th. Her tour ends on March 22nd with a concert featuring John Ruddick‘s Midland Youth Orchestra in Solihull.
