Weekly Gina Radar Playlist

Gina has just issued her latest, weekly 60-minute playlist of new music. Starting off with a third track from the upcoming album “Deliria” by Alex Puddu, due September 16th, “Champagne e Giochi di Coppia” is a remarkable slice of early 80s soul, sung in Italian. Esperanza Spalding has teamed up with the legendary Milton Nascimento. Their collaborative album will be out on August 9th and first track “Outubro” sounds amazing. The track first appeared on the Milton album “Courage” from 1969. The new album also features Dianne Reeves, Paul Simon, Elena Pinderhughes, and Tim Bernardes.

Milton + Esperanza

Pianist Julius Rodriguez has his second album “Evergreen” coming up (June 14th, Verve). First track “Mission Statement” is irresistible. We also get a wonderful smoothly floating r&b track from Tanya Nolan, a piece from the really wonderful second LP by Bryony Jarman-Pinto, and an ethereal track from the new album by Rosehardt. His voice is like butter. His album doesn’t really click totally. Also, a brilliant and surprise collaboration of Jonny Drop and Andrew Ashong, a second song from the upcoming debut by London-based singer Liana Flores (still don’t really know what to think of her), and a new piece from Eliane Elias who didn’t really convince with her last couple of albums. On “Sempre”, she is accompanied by Djavan and the song also comes with a swell Rhodes. Her album “Time And Again” will come out on Candid on June 28th. And oh yes, the all-female disco-delic trio Say She She is back with an intoxicating “In The Morning”.
