Hamburg getting ready for Überjazz

For the fifth year, Hamburg will have its Überjazz Festival in late October this year.

The weekend of October 24th to 26th, Hamburg’s Kampnagel will have four stages under one roof with a very diverse program me which I’m sure will attract a lot of out-of-towners as well.

Blue Note Records is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and so, some of the younger artists on the roster will be on stage in Hamburg. Ambrose Akinmusire on trumpet will play with the Ensemble Resonanz, a string quartet which will also accompany José James during the festival. Robert Glasper’s Experiment will feature Bilal who is also going to have his own band perform on Friday. There’ s also José James’ trumpet player Takuya Kuroda (also with Blue Note), or the Hip Hop/Soul/Jazz group The Drumhedz with Chris Dave and the impressive Neil Cowley Trio from the UK.

One of the most extraordinary  acts on the highly recommended Flying Lotus label is Taylor McFerrin who is also going to be there together with a lot more interesting acts.

Friday and Saturday will be full of international acts, whereas the Sunday will have the final concert only. So far, Shabazz Palaces and Dorian Concept are confirmed.
