One of the newer contemporary jazz festivals in Berlin in recent years is called Serious Series. Contemporary jazz as in modern, avantgarde, and experimental. This year’s line-up features musicians from Germany, the UK, Sweden, and Finland.
The festival starts with a duo concert of two of Germany’s most promising, interesting, and imaginative performers: Christopher Dell on vibraphone and Christian Lillinger on drums. There is a lot to explore this year, like the “Cinema Paradiso” project by tenor saxophonist Jason Seizer with pianist Pablo Held, bassist Matthias Pichler, and drummer Fabian Ahrends.
One of the most exciting bands this year is by harpist Kathrin Pechlof. Her trio includes alto saxophonist Christian Weidner and bassist Robert Landfermann. Featured guest musicians with her trio are Biliana Voutchkova on violin, Vincent Royer on viola, and Dieter Manderscheid on bass.
