Stevie, Nightmares On Wax, Silje, Stacey

It looks like this fall will be pretty full of interesting new music, with a lot of album announcements coming in almost on a daily basis. Nightmares On Wax will come up with a new album called “Shout Out! To Freedom…” on October 29th. The album features guest artists like Shabaka Hutchings, Haile Supreme, Wolfgang Haffner, Greentea Peng, and Beautiful People. The first two singles, or rather the double A-sided single “Wonder” and “Own Me”, is already out. The album will be out on vinyl too. Mark your calendars for two stops in Germany: February 22nd Cologne, Gloria and February 27th Berlin, Metropol.

Coming up on October 1st, Norwegian singer Silje Nergaard will release her beautiful “Houses” album full of beautiful, warm and intensive songs with some wonderful background vocal arrangements. I already had the pleasure to listen to it. It’s gonna be fantastic. Out on October 1st. Including vinyl. Silje will play select German dates in late October and early November. Speaking of Northern lights, the German ACT Music label has signed singer and pianist Anna Gréta from Iceland. Her debut “Nightjar In The Northern Sky” will be available on October 29th. Another intimate and pretty interesting project and a new voice to look out for. No vinyl release set yet.

Stacey Kent also has a quiet, romantic, introspective album coming up which she recorded with pianist Art Hirahara. “Songs From Other Places” will be out on September 17th. It features the Lennon/McCartney classic “Blackbird” as well as “Landslide” by Stevie Nicks, both done in pretty raw, stripped-down, natural versions. Produced by her husband Jim Tomlinson, various singles have already been released with the complete album to be followed soon. The new record will be launched at New York’s Birdland September 28th to October 2nd with Jim sitting in on flute and sax. And then there is Stevie Wonder. His last album was the 2005 release “A Time For Love”. Drummer and percussionist Sheila E just mentioned on Twitter that she is working with him on a new album. Turns out that Stevie is working on two projects called “Through The Eyes Of Wonder” and “The Gospel Inspired By Lula”.
