XJAZZ! Festival 2024
One of the finest jazz festivals in Europe, Berlin’s XJazz! Festival, returns in early May. From May 6th to 12th, well-established and lesser-known acts will grace the stages in Kreuzberg, with all venues within walking distance. Starting on May 6th, Nala Sinephro and her meditative fusion of jazz, folk and field recordings get things moving (Huxley’s Neue Welt). Also coming up: Shabaka, who has just released a beautiful album on which he plays various flutes (May 8th, Emmauskirche), and Bill Frisell, who dropped his Blue Note double album with commissioned works by two orchestras just recently (May 9th, Emmauskirche).
The weekend is full of new artists to explore, with some better known acts thrown in too, and displays the exceptionally diverse and interesting programming: May 10th has Muriel Grossmann, Nightmares On Wax presents Carboot Soul Live, Wayne Snow, and Sasha Berliner. On Saturday, May 11th, you can see Bendik Giske, Nubiyan Twist, Manou Gallo, Dora Morelenbaum, Orchestra Baobab, and Energy Exchange Ensemble feat. Allysha Joy, among others. And on May 12th, there are Omer Klein & Studnitzky, Nduduzo Makhathini, and artists from the Berlin-based record label Oshu Records.
