NN North Sea Jazz Is Back in 2022

After two years of empty halls in Rotterdam’s Ahoy during the second weekend of each July, the festival is back with an amazing line-up for the 2022 edition. I still remember my last visit in 2019 when José James opened the festival with the Metropol Orkest and the music of Bill Withers. Hearing José’s voice together with charming and arresting arrangements of Withers classics with a big orchestra, was something only to be witnessed at this festival. And so, there are a lot of surprises and pairings this year and certainly, it is one of the most eclectic programmes so far.

North Sea Jazz 2022

The grand opening night on Thursday, July 7th, is one of those exclusives: John Legend will be in town. For the next three days, prepare for the meditative, sensational Nala Sinephro, the wonderful Lizz Wright who will join the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra this year, Ravi Coltrane playing the music of John and Alice Coltrane with the help of the exciting harpist Brandee Younger, next jazz superstar Lady Blackbird, the mighty Yola with her all-encompassing voice, Herbie Hancock, Erykah Badu, Stacey Kent, Dianne Reeves back on European stages, Nate Smith + Kinfolk, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Makaya McCraven, Ron Carter with his Foursight Quartet, or Archie Shepp and Jason Moran with Marion Rampal.
