The Becca Stevens Band, whose latest record “Perfect Animal” was released a couple of weeks ago, has announced a 7-date tour through Germany in September. Becca is leading a workshop in Siena, Italy, for about a week in early August and will return to Europe for the tour (see dates below).
Her 10-song album is a resilient collection of songs some of which she had already performed during her last visit to Berlin, for example. The multifaceted singer and songwriter who is also playing the ukulele, among other instruments, shows a keen taste again for choosing cover songs: there is Frank Ocean‘s “Thinkin’ ‘Bout You”, Usher‘s “You Make Me Wanna”, and Steve Winwood‘s “Higher Love”.
Becca has worked with Brad Mehldau in the past, with José James, Gretchen Parlato, Eric Harland, Dave Douglas, Esperanza Spalding, Ambrose Akinmusire, Travis Sullivan, Lionel Loueke, and Taylor Eigsti and is also a member of the group Tillery which also features Gretchen and Rebecca Martin. The very haunting, deep and profound song of the same name (“Tillery”) has also found its way onto the new album which has a mesmerizing closer as well in the shape of the track “JAC”.
Becca plays Banff in Canada in August with Vijay Iyer and here are her German dates:
